As a student Cam Stevens was so interested in the science behind successful transitions between generations within family-owned businesses that he made it his field of study. As a speaker, Cam’s passion is often shared with others on international stages.
The third generation of the Stevens family to helm stevensE3, a London, Ontario-based firm having survived and thrived over its 92 year existence, Cam was invited to speak on the topic of his MBA dissertation - Family Business Transitions - at the biannual OSPI (Octanorm Service Provider International) Conference held in Cape Town, South Africa in December 2018. Stevens finished his Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree after three years of study at the University of Liverpool, focusing on entrepreneurship and family business transitions. The talk emphasized the need for regular communication with all parties involved and a clear understanding of the roles and goals of key stakeholders.
“Family businesses form the foundation of our global economies and are responsible for 60 per cent of nationwide employment within North America. However, only 30 per cent of them survive a transition to the second generation and just 10 per cent make it to a third. Generational transition is a critical subject to discuss when ensuring the survivability of family businesses through the generations,” notes Stevens.
An in-demand international speaker, Stevens will address the IFES World Summit in June 2019 in Athens, Greece and at the Annual EDPA ACCESS Conference in December 2019 in Tucson, Arizona.
