position summary

Responsible for supervising and ensuring setups and takedowns in the field are executed in an efficient, cost effective manner that meets the requirements of the client. Also working within the carpentry shop in the fabrication of exhibit elements while not at installs.

key responsibilities

installation and dismantling of exhibits and related products/services:

  • reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine specifications
  • create verified pull lists and identify crating requirements
  • assemble/stage exhibit or product for client viewing and quality control
  • disassemble staged exhibits, pack effectively and safely, and create bill of materials
  • transport product
  • install and dismantle exhibits
  • assigning job tasks and communicating relevant information/expected results to show service personnel on-site
  • motivating on-site staff
  • implementing and ensuring adherance to the Health and Safety policies
  • arranging special requests of clients
  • supervising on-site show labour
  • handling on-site problems
  • recommending cost-saving measures
  • problem solving on-site

administration:

  • completing reports concerning field service jobs including service contractor forms
  • preparing outbound labels/bills of lading and submitting paperwork to show managment
  • document on-site changes and associated costs for client approval
  • completing reports concerning field services jobs

construct and repair exhibits:

  • Following standards and procedures and making adjustments as necessary
  • Fabricate components in accordance with time-frame available
  • Laminate and finish according to specifications
  • Using tools for measuring, cutting, shaping and assembling materials

ensure operation of carpentry equipment:

  • Completing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repairing equipment malfunctions
  • Evaluating new equipment and techniques and making recommendations to management

maintain safe and clean working environment:

  • Complying with all rules and regulations

required skills/experience/education:

  • Completion of secondary school
  • Completion of a three to four year apprenticeship program

or

  • A combination of over four years of work experience in the trade and some high school, college or industry courses in carpentry
  • Valid drivers license in good standing, passport and ability to travel within canada and the united states
  • Willingness to work overtime and weekends as needed
  • Ability to operate under significant time constraints and pressure
  • Working knowledge of exhibit construction and materials
  • Knowledge of trade shows, show management, graphic arts 
  • Carpentry experience an asset
